Vote for me! Rhizome Grant

Monday, May 21st, 2012 | Posted in Blogroll

I’ve applied for a grant from Rhizome in NYC to help fund the development and documentation of an open source analog synthesizer called the Benjola. This is an open source kit adaptation of the amazing Benjolin Synthesizer invented by Rob Hordijk. 8 grants are awarded by a panel of judges. 2 are awarded by votes from Rhizome members.

If you are a Rhizome member and want to help bring this project to life, please vote for me.
I am applying for funding to develop the kit then produce and distribute 30 units to builders and musicians around the world who will build, use and develop the project further. The entire project will be documented on my website and be freely available for others to use as a starting point for their own Benjola projects.

New projects and PCBs

Saturday, May 12th, 2012 | Posted in Blogroll

I’ve been doing a lot of development lately. I’m waiting on the new NovaDrone PCBs which will be here monday. There will be lots of info on that up soon.
The DroneLab sequencer unfortunately needs a redesign and has been delayed by a few months. I’m converting it from an analog&logic design to a micro controller based system. Of course I should have just done this from the beginning. Oh well.
Also working on a series of stacking analog modular synth PCBs based on the SSM2164 IC. I will have those ready and for sale in my store in a month or so. More info on those soon.

My song “Hollow Earth” was featured on The Upstate Soundscape (listen above). This song is an homage to bands like Neu and Cluster so I was glad to hear it played on a show dedicated to krautrock greats!

Empac residency

finished assembling the control station today. Now to make some noise.
All told we’ve got:
- 9 channel surround sound system with 4 addressable subs and center hanging full range/sub speaker cluster.
- 2 computer stations running MAX msp. Patch includes multiple sign wave generators and sound spatialization system.
- 2 iPads with touchOSC to control MAX patch.
- 2 Modular synthesizers.
- 2 tube oscillators.
- central mixing console.
- Protools recording station.
- stereo modeled human head mic.
- a bunch more mics that I’m not as excited about as the head mic.

Here are a few production shots.

The Drone Lab sequencer is on its way!

Sunday, March 4th, 2012 | Posted in Blogroll

I’m excited to announce that I’ve begun working on a Drone Lab step sequencer and plan on making it available in the next few months. If you have a Drone Lab and want to unlock the potential of the tremolo feature, this sequencer is for you!
There are lots of cool features on this thing but coolest one is that you can plug them into each other to make longer sequences. they can also be linked to make multiple sequence channels. I’ll post updates as it develops!
