New improved step sequencer schematic

Here is a schematic I made for an 8 step 4 channel programmable step sequencer for a Make magazine tutorial. I’ve been waiting till the article is done to post the schematic but it’s taking longer than expected soooooo….. here it is now.

    Hello Pete

I try for video games bending with the 4016, but don’t work, I don’t understand what.

I use 2n3904 with 10K same you but for the 2n2222 I use 270 ohm. and it’s work well.

One of the problems with the 4016 is that there is substantial resistance between the two switch points. It also has current passing limitations. I stopped using the 4016 a long time ago. It works for non critical digital applications but is not well suited for analog circuits where the resistance between switching contacts is important. Transistors are a much better way to go for most applications.

Sweet! I love this, these easy to read schematics are so nice. Definitely going to stick one of these in my modular. A PCB would be nice… ;) ;)

Woha, is this just a switch on and off for each step, if it’s on, you get a trigger out?

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Do you by any chance have a PCB that might be in the store very soon.

How complex would it be to convert this to 4×16 steps?

@JP: we are working on a PCB for a simple 1 channel, 8 step sequencer that will work with the drone lab. Adapting the circuit to be 4 channels would just be a matter of stacking the PCBs. Adapting the circuit to be 16steps is a little more involved/difficult.

    Great project!
Is there any news on this?

@Scotsky. I am designing a sequencer that can be stacked end to end to make longer sequences and on top of eachother to make more channels. I developed the circuit and got a few PCBs made but it isn’t working correctly.
I’ve decided to change the whole design to use a micro controller. It will be a much cooler sequencer but it will also delay the project by a month or two.
