@Clarke. Yes! but its not just the iPhone camera. Almost any digital camera will do this. It has to do with the scan rate of the camera in relation to the frequency of the LED flashing.
I will cover it all in the tech manual which I will post soon.
I’ve been using a Digital Harinezumi to record my Nova Drone lights, and the effect is super psychedelic because of the camera’s purposefully imperfect capturing abilities. ie – https://vimeo.com/51972978
