Artists Statement
My practice utilizes a variety of mediums. I am a musician, sculptor, inventor and teacher–though it is crucial to my work that I not employ any one of these roles to the exclusion of the others. My practice takes place at their intersection or sometimes creates intersections where there might have been. The overlap itself fulfills a desire to challenge, entertain and inspire my audience. By blending mediums or practices thought to exist on their own, I hope to incite a perception of new possibility. Through all of my work, I strive to destabilize preconceptions of role and function as well as dissolve the barriers between producer and consumer. Particularly to this end, I employ the practice of electronics hacking and circuit bending of common technologies to illustrate that function need not be dictated to the end user.
