Casper at LA & NY bent festivals

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 | Posted in casperstuff

Attention all New Yorkers and Los Angelites!!!
I will be at the upcoming bent festivals in both LA and NY showing off and demoing my

new product!

After years of working on the Texas Instruments Speak&Spell I have come up with a design that incorporates the best bends into a rugged, utilitarian and affordable design.

This piece is brand new and there are tons of details to follow including pics, videos, online manual and add on features…such as the LFO module pictured on the Speak&Read in my last post.
Below is a picture showing some of the standard features:
-atari controller port
-guitar strap pegs
-locking 1/4″ audio jack
-pitch adjustment body contacts
+
-sound activated LED
-3 glitch switches
-LOOP switch and adjustment
-HOLD switch and adjustment
-pitch adjustment
-industrial reset button

The LA fest starts this thursday April 17-19. The NY fest is April 24-26.

An ongoing project with Sam Cohen of Apollo Sunshine.
We’re currently trying to work out a guitar body mounted ebow style feedback module for endless sustain effects. I’ll post any significant developments on that one. Original mods to this guitar including echo circuit and custom face plate installed by Patrick Bobilin of Herscheltronics. His site seems to be down right now. BUg Patrick and get him to put it back up!!! herscheltronics@gmail.com

New Speak&Spell schematic added

Thursday, February 28th, 2008 | Posted in casperstuff

New schematic added to the Speak&Spell bending page.
This is a re-draw and update of an older drawing which was posted on the S&S bending page. The original was hard to read and I wanted to add a bunch of stuff to it, so I decided to redraw the whole thing.

Casio SA bending tutorial

Saturday, January 26th, 2008 | Posted in casperstuff

I’ve been speaking with a very skilled bender in the UK named Paul Parry aka Oceanus. Paul takes an engineers approach to bending and has come up with some very impressive results. He and I have worked together to bring you the following tutorial on bending the CASIO SA keyboards. These modifications are all Paul’s designs. I have been working with Paul to illustrate his designs and make them available to the public through casperelectronics. Paul has posted several videos of his creations on Youtube which you can see here.

analog meets circuitbent

This video shows two casio keyboards, a drum toy, switch sequencer, mini modular synth and analog sequencer all linked together.

I built the modular synth and sequencer based on schematics from
http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/
If you want to get into building analog synth gear, but don’t know where to start, go to this site!!!
Super helpful, tons of info and he has lots of circuitboards for sale.

The switch sequencer is the blue box second from the left. This is the central brain for this whole operation. Schematics for this piece can be found here.

This is used to trigger the drum toy (rehoused in the brown box to the left) and is also triggering the casio keyboards which are pretty quiet in this video.
The switch sequencer is also outputing a clock pulse which is being fed to the analog sequencer which is controlling the analog synth.
What you get is a link between circuit bent instruments and analog synth gear.
