The Elfman

casperelectronics Speak and Spell: The Elfman

I made this piece for Danny Elfman a few years ago. It’s the first piano keyboard S&S I built and it was definitely my most ambitious piece at the time. One of the stranger features of this piece is the geared pitch adjustment. The pitch adjustment knob has a small gear on it. This engages a larger gear which is attached to the pitch control potentiometer. The larger gear turns once for every three turns of the smaller one. This allows the user to make very subtle adjustments to the pitch.

wow, Danny Elfman was one of my favorite hollywood composers ever since a Nightmare Before Christmas.
It would be seriously awesome to hear your bending in a hollywood production

@Olivia: I think I built a few too many Speak&Spells. I got a little burned on them and have moved on to other gear.
@SKGB: That would be great! Let me know if you hear anything!

I’m going to firmly give my nomination in hopes that this piece ends up in a museum one day in the future so that others can appreciate it indefinitely (plus the joystick mod). Absolutely glorious work.
